Summer Schools 2006
Design your own web site: 5 days - 31 July to 4 August
- Gain all the knowledge you need to create and update your own website using Macromedia and Adobe industry software.
- Get support from a web designer
- Earn tips for creating a cool professional site
- Using images (Photoshop) and animation (Flash).
- Free web space is offered during the course.
Open to students in years 8 to 11 with an interest in web design. Reasonable IT skills and interest and enthusiasm are the only requirements for this summer school.
Dates and times: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday 31 July to Friday 4 August

Animate!: 2 days: 7/8 August and 9/10 August
Learn to make your own animations
- Be your own film maker
- Create your own clay model characters and sets and film them using easy to use digital video cameras
- Learn to use some great animation software on our fantastic AppleMac computers
- Share your videos over the web with your family and friends!
For anyone, ages 10 to 16
Dates & times: 9:30 – 3:00 pm - Monday & Tuesday 7/8 August, or Wenesday & Thursday 9/10 August, with a roundup day for all on Friday 11 August
Cost: FREE
Sound tracking and movie making: 2 or 5 days - 14 to 18 August
- Learn the skills to plan, film and edit a video using iMovie, a really easy and intuitive video editing package
- Create your own music using ‘Garage Band’ on the Apple Mac computers, or record music from your own instruments, if you can play!
- Put the whole lot together into a cool video with a musical soundtrack!
The 5-day package includes creating your own original video and soundtrack. You can do an alternative package in 1 or 2 days just learning to use Garage Band.
For anyone, ages 10 -16

Cube Magazine Summer School: 5 days - 14 to 18 August
Interested in Journalism and Media Careers? Cube Young People's Magazine is offering places on its one week summer school to students in transition to Year 11, who missed the opportunity to do a work placement at the magazine, in particular from the following schools:
- Birley Community College
- Chaucer
- Fir Vale
- Notre Dame High
- Tapton
- Waltheof
- Wisewood
Learn skills in journalism and media areas such as: magazine article writing, interviewing, film, radio, photography and web and contribute to Cube Magazine and the Cube website.
Dates and times: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday 14 to Friday 18 August
