Creating eMaterials

This is a chance to create new electronic materials for your school and the wider school community.

What is ILT?

ILT (Information Learning Technology) is the use of ICT in teaching and learning to enhance and encourage learning. There are great developments in this area within education at present and with this development comes the need for new electronic materials to be used in any learning situation across the curriculum.

They will be gathered together and form the basis of a resources bank that can be used in everyday lessons and may be accessed through a Le (learning environment). The whole idea of this is that we get a good cross section of curriculum areas covered and that we can share the materials created with other teachers across Sheffield and eventually, nationally.

What skills do I need to take part?

You don't need to be an ICT whiz kid! This is new to most people, so don't worry if you feel you don't have any experience in doing this yet - it would be great if you did, but we don't expect you to have any, rather it would be good to develop your skills in this area with the support of staff from the CLC and the group of other teachers who are involved with the project. You do need to have some knowledge of the Windows environment and basic skills in various applications packages that are used within your area and the MS Office suite. There will be a chance to get training in areas that are appropriate for what you want to achieve.

How many people are we looking for?

We are looking for at least one teacher from each of our partnership schools. Depending on how your school manages projects like this it may be good to run it as a department. We do want different curriculum areas from each school. These materials will be used in lessons, for homework, for revision, for home learning etc. There are a lot out there in hyperspace at the moment and part of what you do may involve searching for the most useful materials for your subject area.

How long will the project last?

This project will run from September 2002 to July 2003. It is envisaged that during the first half term you will be gathering information around what is needed in your subject area and gaining any skills you feel you need.

During the second half and then during the spring term you will be writing materials for use in your school initially.

Then during May/June 2003 you will take part in a 'showcase event' where you and other teachers whithin the partnership will demonstrate your materials to other teachers from schools within the partnership and other interested bodies.

Then during July 2003 you will take part in an evaluation event to find out what needs to be done to take the initiative forward.

Is there a bursary involved?

There is a bursary of £1000, either for the individual or for the dept. to use as they wish. There will be an agreed minimum of materials to be developed and this will be discussed when the group initially meet in September when we will draw up an agreement together.

The group will communicate via an email list and through a web board to share good practise, good web links and to give each other support. Part of the initial meeting in September will be to introduce you to these technologies if you haven't used them before.
